General practice
Our general practices act as exemplars
of patient and client centred care
providing a resilient caseload for
undergraduate training, supporting
postgraduate career pathways and
leading the profession by generating
general practice focussed research and
by sharing quality improvement
initiatives
To achieve this aim we will:
 Create a General Practice (GP) division
within the RVC providing both strategic
direction and accountability for opera-
tional delivery for our general practice
sites and supporting collaboration and
sharing of expertise between our GP
sites
 Develop clear internal development
opportunities for our GP team aligning
and contributing to the wider work in the
profession supporting general practice

 Ensure our general practices model
 Build a clear strategy and deliver good business practice with defi ned and
clear offerings for our clients and effi cient
asociated outputs addressing research
questions relevant to general practice processes
optimising use of our VetCompass
database and supporting the
establishment of general practice as an
academic discipline.
 Ensure our general practices support
education across the breadth of activity
undertaken within general practice
including a structured approach to
contextualised care for unwell patients,
and preventative healthcare
 Review our general practice offering
in light of changing accreditation
requirements and ensure a robust
and resilient caseload for our general
practice undergraduate teaching through
our internal sites, exploring appropriate
acquisitions and cementing partnerships
with key external providers, especially
those for shelter medicine/accessible
care and production animal medicine
