Facts about
Gentoo penguins
The Gentoo is the third-largest
species of penguin after the emperor
penguin and the king penguin.
They are the fastest underwater
swimmers of all penguins, reaching
speeds up to 22 mph.
They are very adaptable in where they
live and their presence or absence
from an area can be an indicator of
the effects of climate change.
Gentoos love stones and they are
especially prized by the females, even to
the point that a male penguin can obtain
the favours of a female by offering her a
choice stone.
