Endocrinology
The RVC is a leading institution in the research of endocrine conditions in small animals and the Internal Medicine Service enjoy seeing all types of endocrinology cases in both dogs and cats.
We offer a wide range of services allowing us to find the optimal treatment or management strategies for each individual patient. We regularly see the following types of cases:
- Feline diabetic remission clinic
- Canine diabetes mellitus
- Cats with suspected or confirmed acromegaly
- Patients with hypoglycaemia and suspected or confirmed insulinoma
- Hyperthyroid cats
- Hypothyroidism in dogs
- Hypoadrenocorticism (Addison’s disease) in dogs
- Dogs with confirmed or suspected Cushing’s disease
- Dogs with adrenal masses including pheochromocytoma
- Dogs and cats with calcium derangements (hyperparathyroidism and hypoparathyroidism)
Each patient is evaluated as an individual and all treatment options are discussed. We have specialised services available for the treatment of certain conditions including radioactive iodine therapy for hyperthyroidism and hypophysectomy for pituitary tumours including acromegaly in cats and hyperadrenocorticism in dogs.
