Fly with a (future) vet to the rescue of animals

        Anastasia Margaroli

nastasia is never bored! “Following my vet degree, I
Channelling the classic RVC would like to help vulnerable
‘work hard, play hard’ philosophy, animals and populations
Ashe has kept herself busy by using both my pilot and
throughout her time at the RVC, joining veterinary skills, through working
various clubs and societies and becoming with organisations such as
one of the Anatomy Club Student Reps. Aviation Without Borders or
This year at Hawkshead, she joined the Pilots to the Rescue.
hockey and touch rugby teams, both
of which she really enjoys. And did we “I look forward to working
mention she also volunteers her time to the towards my goals and see what
RVC Animal Care Trust (ACT) and started the future will bring! This is your
to work as a student ambassador? captain speaking: please fasten
                                            your seatbelts, sit back, relax

rescue when the ACT is at its
busiest. She flies in, gets us out
        of our mountain of paperwork
and flies out again. I don’t know
        what we’d do without her”,
        Amy Billington, Fundraising Manager.
Talking of flying, Anastasia tells us:

“Two years ago, I decided to book an
introductory flight lesson and now, here
I am, I’m standing as a licenced pilot,
        Bioveterinary graduate and a third-year
vet student! What a crazy ride the last
        couple years have been!

“Growing up, like many people, I aspired
to work with animals. I joined the RVC
in 2018 through the BSc Bioveterinary
        Science course, after attending the
        wonderful Pre-Vet Summer School two
years prior. During my BSc, I learned what
it is to be a scientist, met life-long friends
and grew up as a person. Those three
enriching years have only reinforced that
my passion lies in veterinary medicine.

        “Eager to experience new
challenges, in the summer of 2020,
I started to learn how to fly planes. I
then realised that being powered by
        120 horses was more manageable
        than just one single horse!

“I celebrated my BSc graduation (after
more than a year of waiting!) last summer
and I am now at the start of my veterinary
clinical training. Studying for my BSc
has given me the tools to be ready to
        undertake veterinary medicine training.
