The RVC’s Oncology research group is a collaboration between researchers, pathologists and clinicians with expertise and interest in tumour biology, oncopathology, oncogenomics, molecular oncology and clinical oncology.

Cancer is the leading cause of death in dogs and cats, and is the second leading cause of death in people worldwide. Many cancers in dogs and cats are good translational models for their human counterparts so research in veterinary oncology not only benefits companion animals but can have a direct impact on human medicine. The aim of the Oncology research group is to foster collaboration between basic researchers and clinicians to advance our understanding of cancer development and progression and identify new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. The group has conducted clinical trials, and frequently partners with researchers at external institutes to further our progress towards the common goal of advancing our understanding of cancer biology and improving outcomes in veterinary species as well as people.

The group includes pathologists from our Diagnostic Laboratories and clinicians from the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals, one of Europe’s leading small animal hospitals.
