WELCOME
It is strange to think that we are only weeks into the COVID-19 pandemic and yet our world has changed almost beyond recognition. And whilst our immediate focus has been on the day-to-day issues of ensuring the safety, wellbeing and education of those under our direct care, we are mindful that our wider community is suffering hardship and challenges and I would like wish you and your families a safe and uneventful time through this crisis.
As alumni of the RVC, I also want to keep you updated on what we have been doing to tackle the seemingly innumerable layers of complexity brought about by the current situation. Whilst this newsletter is usually focused on the work and projects the RVC has delivered thanks to your generous support, this edition will also tell you how we have supported our community and made adjustments to our ways of working during the current crisis.
With our campuses very quiet, our lecture theatres empty, laboratories on maintenance and the hospitals now focused mainly on emergency and urgent care cases, we have been seeking ways in which we can support our broader community. I hope you enjoy reading about our activities in this newsletter, particularly the article by Adrian Boswood outlining how we have met the challenges of teaching remotely.
For many years, the RVC has championed the One Health approach recognising the links between humans, animals and our environments and never has this been more relevant than in our current situation. The new facilities being built at Hawkshead will be a vital component in our continued efforts to promote and deliver to a One Health agenda and whilst the building project will be slightly delayed due to the pandemic, we have

never been more determined. We are committed to inspiring and promoting collaboration, empowering our students to become the One Health leaders of the future, equipped to tackle the global challenges faced by society.
