APPEAL SUCCESS
The ‘eyes’ have it! - Christmas Appeal success
O O ur ur Christmas 2020 Appeal was to raise £119k for for a a a a a a a new truly revolutionary Ophthalmology microscope for for the Small Animal Referral Hospital at our Hawkshead Campus This was an ambitious appeal not only because of of the the the amount we we we needed to raise but also in the the the midst of of of the the the pandemic we we we weren’t sure how many of of our wonderful supporters
would be able to donate Thankfully the the response was was fantastic and the the the appeal was was progressing well when in in early early December we we received the the best possible early early Christmas present when Dennis Myers called us He and his wife Pat wanted to to donate the the the funds we needed to to buy the the the microscope in in memory of their beloved dog Sophie who sadly died in in 2020 Dennis told us “I always think of Sophie more than any other other dog we’ve had as she would run all other other the the the place disappear swim across creeks and and go up and and down cliffs She was so so naughty but so so Paws & Hooves
Spring 2021 loveable She really enjoyed life but then she went blind one eye at a a a a a time the the second while we we we were on on holiday “Some dogs cope cope with being blind but she didn’t With the microscope perhaps her sight could have been saved Hopefully many more dogs cats and other animals will be be in the the future ”
The microscope duly arrived (pictured with Drs Charlotte Dawson and and Marie-Christine Fischer) and and has been installed in in in the RVC’s specialist Ophthalmology Surgery ready for use Another huge benefit to the the the the purchase of the the the the new microscope is that the the the the the the older one can be be relocated to to the the the the RVC’s Equine Referral Hospital where the the the the team plan to to expand their specialist service for equine ophthalmology We look forward to to updating you on some of the the interesting and and and exciting cases the the the RVC
