Gifts in wills change lives
G enerous donations from supporters in their wills have helped change thousands of human and animal lives by supporting the advancement of veterinary medicine,
enabling RVC Hospitals to purchase cutting-edge equipment and supporting veterinary students through hard times.
Every gift we receive, no matter how large or small, makes a real and tangible difference.
There are all sorts of ways your legacy can make a difference and we would be delighted to talk to you about how we can help. Here are just a few examples of recent legacies that have become wonderful testaments to the donors who made them possible.
RVC Hospital – CT Sedation Room
2016 marked the 30th birthday of the RVC’s Queen Mother Hospital for Animals and in celebration we launched an appeal to raise the funds to purchase a new CT Scanner for the hospital.
During the Appeal Year we were delighted to receive a generous legacy from a previous hospital client. This enabled the RVC to completely re- design the space needed for the new scanner to incorporate a sedation room just for users of the CT.
Previously all patients who needed scans were sent to the Anaesthesia Room for preparation and in emergency situations this meant scheduled surgeries could be delayed. The new sedation room has made a tremendous difference to the hospital in facilitating quicker and more efficient
scans and leaving the Anaesthesia Room clear for surgical preparations.
Improving the welfare of Thai Elephants
A generous legacy from a supporter who loved Thai Elephants has supported an exciting initiative between the RVC and Chiang Mai University.
The aim of the project is to improve the health of Thai Elephants through a combination of training and medical support. The project provides online and onsite training for those who look after the elephants, teaching them about handling, nutrition and general welfare in their own language.
It has also funded a mobile clinic for elephants meaning veterinarians are able to travel to the animals who need their help.
Helping students in financial need
In 2017 the RVC received a generous legacy
from a supporter who wanted to help students.
The legacy was used to set up a new scholarship for the RVC’s Veterinary Nursing degree to try to encourage individuals to apply to the RVC who might consider a degree to be beyond their means.
The legacy also contributes to the annual student hardship fund which exists to support students experiencing financial hardship during a lengthy and demanding course which does not allow sufficient time for part-time work.
