Summer students investigate horse behaviour and welfare
Last week we celebrated the end of our summer students' projects!
We were very lucky to have Ambre Jacquart (MSci WAB) and Emmanuel Oloyede-Oyeyemi (BVetMed) join us this summer to run projects alongside Aline's PhD project on early life effects on Thoroughbred behaviour and welfare. Ambre won a UFAW summer scholarship to investigate how mare-foal interactions pre-weaning affect mares' welfare when they get separated from their foals, while Emmanuel won a BBSRC LIDo Research Experience Placement to investigate whether mares and foals show emotional lateralization of social behaviours.
We are looking forward to see them present their results at an Animal Welfare Discussion Forum this Autumn - watch this space!
