Fergus McCorkell, a PhD student supervised by Richard Bomphrey (Royal Veterinary College) and Graham Taylor (University of Oxford), has won the prize for best student presentation in the Division of Invertebrate Zoology at the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.   

Much of Fergus' work is based on micro-CT measurements taken under the guidance of Michael Doube at the Royal Veterinary College. They used the scanner to describe the detailed array of wind sensitive hairs on the heads of locusts which are important sensors used in flight control.
