Dr Tatjana Hubel and her colleagues from Brown University and Winston Salem State University in the USA have published their work about the flight performance of insectivorous bats in a special flight edition of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: ‘Moving in a moving medium: new perspectives on flight’.

The study compares the kinematics and aerodynamics for two bat species that pursue insect prey aerially and explores how relatively small differences in ecology and morphology tie to differences in wing motion and aerodynamics.
