Mazdak Salavati
Current Position: Research Fellow, Roslin Institute
I started my career in biomedical research immediately after PhD graduation (“Studies on in vitro maturation of dog oocytes to improve maturation rate and development potentials” 2013) at the Royal Veterinary College as a postdoctoral research associate working on molecular signalling of apoptosis (2013-2015). Focusing on my field of interest genomics and biological big data analysis, I joined an international effort in safeguarding ethical sustainability of the dairy farming of Holstein Frisian cows within Genotype plus Environment consortium (www.gpluse.eu 2015-2018.
During this period at the RVC, I gained substantial experience via both college’s development programme (pure scientific training biostatistics, informatics etc and teaching qualifications HEA) and invaluable mentorship of academic staff whom I worked with. As a young researcher at the beginning of my career, becoming part of the RVC’s Researcher Association, in a vibrant and productive environment helped building my network of peers and paved the way for my next career move.
I am currently working as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Roslin Institute, Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, in a senior bioinformatician role shared between Centre of Tropical Livestock Genetics and Health and the Functional Annotation of Animal Genomes project.
