The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) is delighted to announce that, following an international search, Ms Amanda Boag, a European and American recognised specialist in Emergency and Clinical Care, will be taking up the position of Vice Principal (Clinical Services) later this autumn.

Ms Boag joins the RVC from the private sector, bringing 15 years of esteemed experience, first as Clinical Director at Vets Now, during which she was responsible for clinical innovation, quality and veterinary professional development across 60 UK sites; and, most recently as Chief Medical Officer at IVC Evidensia, where she led the learning and development and clinical leadership teams across the global business.

Drawing on this expertise, Ms Boag will lead one of the largest academic clinical operations in the world, providing clinical care, training and advice to an international clientele. She will also be a member of the RVC’s senior team, helping lead significant expansion of its clinical facilities as it looks to the next chapter in its 230 year history.  

Ms Boag graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1998 and subsequently completed further clinical training at the RVC and the University of Pennsylvania, achieving board certification in both Internal Medicine and Emergency and Critical Care. She remained at the RVC until 2008, working as a Lecturer in Emergency and Critical Care.

In recognition of her expertise, Ms Boag was an elected member of Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RVCS) Council for eight years, from 2012 to 2020 and served as its President from 2018 to 2019. She was also Founding President of the European College of Emergency and Critical Care (ECVECC 2014-2018) and is a Treasurer of the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation board. She is currently chair of Trustees for RCVS Knowledge.

Of her appointment, Ms Boag said:

Delivering clinical service innovation and high-quality care, alongside the nurturing of the next generation of veterinary professionals, has been the key driver throughout my career. On a personal level I am very much looking forward to coming back to the institution where I started my veterinary journey 25 years ago.”
