The Royal Veterinary College, University of London, has been ranked second in London and eighth in the UK in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2015.

The RVC moved up 34 places in the rankings, the highest of any UK university and no other institution offering veterinary medicine programmes was ranked higher.

The annual survey, which addresses student satisfaction across a range of areas, was responded to by more than 300,000 students. This represents a response rate of 71% nationally, though the RVC response rate was much higher, at 84%.

In key areas of the survey satisfaction at the RVC has massively increased since last year. These areas include how lecturers explain complex information and how well the subjects are being taught. Other areas of improvement were the RVC's facilities and resources, the enthusiasm of its staff and the personal development of students.

The RVC's BSc Bioveterinary Sciences had an outstanding result, with an overall satisfaction rate of 100%, while the Foundation Degree in Veterinary Nursing received 100% satisfaction rates in several key areas.

The survey findings echo those from the recent Times Higher Education (THE) Student Experience Survey, in which the RVC was ranked fourth out of 113 universities nationwide for its “high-quality lectures and staff” and named the best university in London for student experience.

David Church, Vice-Principal (Learning and Student Experience) at the RVC, said: 'We are very pleased with the Royal Veterinary College's performance in the latest National Student Satisfaction surveys. To be rated in the top eight universities in the country is extremely satisfying and shows how much our students value the educational experience they receive here at the RVC.

'Perhaps even more pleasing though is we are now the highest ranked university in the UK offering a suite of veterinary, biological and veterinary nursing degrees. There are numerous factors that have helped us achieve this honour, but it is clear that one of the most important is our talented and dedicated staff who are totally committed to ensuring each and every one of our students receives the training and support they need to optimise their learning experience.'
